May I recommend that Xubuntu Linux be installed on these laptops? It is 100% open source (free) and comes installed with an Office suite and much more. It is FAR more secure than Windows, which is a LOT of food for thought for activists! Also, it will make an older machine feel brand new.

This is an important and pressing issue, Native Americans in Alaska need laptops to get connected and get the word out about devastation that not only effects their communities but ours. The major obstacle they face is the absence of technology. Laptops donated to them will have far reaching effects on the awareness and mobilization campaigns of environmental disasters. What they know can be highly influential and the only thing stopping them is lack of a laptop. Please help get the word out about getting laptops donated. I will personally format and install on each donated computer the basic tools and operating environment to get Native Americans in Alaska connected with the rest of the world.
