Join us as we dance together, eat, and raise money for Marissa Alexander’s defense fund! With DJ The Tornado!

DJ! Food! Drinks! Dancing! $10 suggested donation at the door–no one turned away for lack of funds! This space is located on the fourth floor, and is accessible by an elevator. We will also have seating in the dance room for those who cannot stand for long periods of time.

Marissa is a survivor of domestic violence from Jacksonville, FL who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for defending herself from violence. Even though she merely fired a gun in the air and injured no one, she was denied the defense of Florida’s “Stand your Ground” law and sentenced under a mandatory minimum. In September 2013, Marissa’s conviction was overturned by an appeals court and a new trial ordered, but she remains in jail awaiting her new trial, scheduled for 2014. You can read more about Marissa’s story and her legal case at http://www.justiceformarissa.blogspot.com/.

Follow Free Marissa Now and Chicago Alliance to Free Marissa Alexander for future events and updates with Marissa’s case.

You can come early to multikulti anytime after 5pm to make holiday cards for LGBTQ prisoners with Black and Pink: Chicago! More details at: Black and Pink Chicago Holiday Card-Writing Party!
