Multikulti is teaming up with Tar Sands Free Midwest of Illinois and FreeGeek Chicago to refurbish donated laptops and send them to needy hands in Native American communities, including remote communities in Alaska. Native Americans are dealing with environmental issues and need help getting the technology for getting the word out to the world about inhumane issues they are facing.

Donations will be accepted at the multikulti space near Augusta and Milwaukee Ave. Please get a hold of someone at multikulti to deliver your donation. We are currently accepting the following items:

1. Laptops capable of running at least Windows XP that have wifi and a working power supply. We also accept working G4 Macbooks and Pros. We would also accept and prioritize rugged laptops for remote villages.
2. XP discs with License
3. MS Office discs with License
4. USB Web Cameras with Mic
5. New CMOS and PROM batteries, ie CR2032
6. Solid State hard drives or micro IDE to SD card adapters with SD cards of at least 4gb

We are also looking for Linux developers that would be interested in building an UI environment that is easy enough and fool-restricted to use for elders that have never used a computer before. An ideal user interface example could be the xPud project or KiLauncher. The development of KiLauncher is active and the developer welcomes contributions.
